Are you the cause of eating disorders?
Eating disorders are characterized by excessive attention to body weight, body shape, and relationship with food, which can negatively affect a person's health, emotions, self-development, and growth in life behaviors. The most common eating disorders are anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by deficient body weight, fear of gaining weight, and misperception. Bulimia is an eating disorder characterized by overweight body weight that is caused by excessive and uncontrolled food intake. The cause of eating disorders can be mental, societal, or people's upbringing. Not talking about it enough has had many consequences in the disorder over the years.
Eating disorders are a disease that affects thousands of people every day. Any type of person, at any age, with any type of body shape can suffer from an eating disorder. In my opinion, the cause of eating disorders is all of us. You, the person it is affecting, society, and me. Because of us, because of our ideas of the perfect body, because of us always wanting to judge, assume, and believe we are right, people are dying because of eating disorders. I think everyone has an idea in their head that defines the perfect body shape and in reality, there is no perfect body shape. This idea destroys people and makes them think that they have to do everything in their power to have the body shape that we have defined as perfect. That said, many people stop eating or overeating because of anxiety and it will create an eating disorder. This is not just society or education, but many parents contribute to the idea of a perfect body shape and this affects the child. Unfortunately, as many of us are not well informed or take it as if it were a joke, many people suffer from eating disorders and do not realize it. Leading them to have health problems, emotional, etc. It should be mentioned that eating disorders are not caused by us alone. However, according to researchers, they are caused by a complex interaction of factors, including genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological and social.
In conclusion, eating disorders are the cause of many diseases and illnesses in today’s time. I think it is of utmost importance that this topic be taught from adolescence because it is usually at that stage that most cases occur. This issue should not be taken lightly because it affects thousands of people every day. We should not only inform ourselves about the problem but also about the solutions. It doesn't matter if we don't have an eating disorder, knowing about the problem and its solution informs us to help others in need. What are the solutions? Some helpful treatments or resources are: normalizing eating patterns, getting to a healthy weight, changing unhealthy habits to healthy habits, learning to control what you eat and your moods, developing problem-solving skills, and exploring healthy ways to cope with stressful situations. From my side, it is not only you who is the cause of disordered eating but also me, society, and parents, and until we stop judging, judging, and assuming, we will never understand that there is no perfect body shape.
